An Droim - Drum
The civil parish of Drum is located west of Athlone town in the south of county Roscommon, in the heart of Éire/Ireland. The name Drum is an Anglicised version of the original Irish name, An Droim, from Droim Dreastain, meaning Drestan's ridge.
Lying on the west bank of the River Shannon, Drum has a rich cultural and built heritage and a strong sense of community. Bibi Baskin once described it as being "not a town, nor a village, but a place apart."
Drum Parish
The civil parishes of Drum and Saint Peter's are combined to form the Catholic Parish of Saints Peter & Paul - Athlone, Drum and Clonown. St. Brigid's Church, Drum is located in the townland of Curryroe, along with Drum Parish Hall, Drum Cemetery, monastic site, St. Brigid's well and Drum heritage centre.
